The main Google Maps listing checked on 26 October 2026 supplied no opening hours. A University of Dhaka report labelled 2024 describes public access, but does not establish current hours or fees. Confirm current access arrangements before travelling.

Getting there by metro

Get off at Dhaka University station on MRT Line 6 and walk through the university area, or take a short rickshaw ride. For most visitors this is the easiest and most predictable route.

  • Get off at: Dhaka University station (MRT Line 6)
  • Then: walk / rickshaw / CNG auto-rickshaw
  • Landmark: Secretariat Road towards the Dhaka Medical College gate

Rickshaw, CNG and car

From Shahbagh, TSC, Doel Chattar or the University of Dhaka area, saying “Central Shaheed Minar” is usually enough for drivers to recognise the place.

Do not rely on dedicated visitor parking; using authorised parking or a drop-off in the university and medical college area and walking is more realistic.

How long and when to go

Twenty to thirty minutes is enough to see the monument and pay respects. Allow 45–60 minutes if you want to take in the history and architecture slowly, and more if you add Curzon Hall or Doel Chattar.

Morning or late afternoon gives softer light on the white columns and the red disc, and less heat.

21 February and special days

Ekushey February brings huge crowds, flower tributes and special security arrangements; roads and entry points may be regulated.

Follow the designated entry and exit routes, obey police and authority instructions, and set out with extra time in hand.

Etiquette and safety

This is a place of remembrance, not an entertainment venue. Keep silence, avoid dramatic poses in front of flower tributes, and ask consent before photographing people close up.

Agree on a meeting point with your companions in advance: mobile networks can slow down when the crowds are at their peak.
